💫 Overview

You know the feeling. A breakthrough at a conference, in a coaching session, halfway through a book — everything is suddenly clear, and this time is going to be different. Then Thursday comes. The calendar fills, someone on your team has a problem, a client needs something, and without noticing it you become the same woman making the same decisions in the same way. That breakthrough didn’t disappear because you’re undisciplined. It disappeared because you tried to build it in the wrong order.

The Problem

Most women reach for a new tactic when they want change — a new marketing company, a new CRM, a promotion, a posting schedule. The more ambitious ones reach for strategy. But we confuse the two constantly, and the blur costs real money. Strategy is a decision about what game you’re playing and how you intend to win it — who you serve, what you’re the obvious choice for, what you’re deliberately not doing. A tactic is a thing you do on a Tuesday. Tactics are seductive because they finish; you can cross one off and feel like you took action today. Strategy just sits there being unresolved and making you a little nervous.

So we go tactic-shopping. I lived it — flat numbers, real fear, and a stretch where I ran a promotion, then a different promotion, redid the website, changed the ad company, added an afternoon block, bought a program at a conference. Every one of those was a real action by a serious person, and every one cost money. And underneath all of it, nothing was being examined: not who we were for, not what we were actually selling, not what I believed was happening to me, and certainly not the fact that I was making every decision at ten o’clock at night in a state where the only thing I could feel was “do something, do something, do something.” That’s what the bottom floor looks like from the inside. It doesn’t look like avoidance. It looks like hustle.

The QueenMode Perspective

Here is what I actually want to give you: the QueenMode Sequence. State, then Identity, then Strategy, and only then, tactics. The whole argument is about the direction that runs.

Most of us believe State is the result — that once the business turns around, we’ll finally feel like ourselves again. No. State is the cause. It’s the on-ramp, the first domino, and everything downstream is waiting on it. And State is made of three things you can put your hands on today: Language (how you actually narrate your business — “we’re drowning” stops being a description and becomes an instruction), Body (emotion follows motion; how you stand, breathe, and move changes how you feel), and Thoughts (most of what we call “thinking about the business” is rehearsing the same worry in the same groove and calling it diligence).

But State alone doesn’t hold — it’s weather, beautiful and temporary. What makes it stick is when a state, held long enough, hardens into Identity, a claim about who you are. “I’m the only one who can do this.” “I’m not a numbers person.” “I’m just not a salesperson.” Every one of those is an identity statement wearing a fact costume, and each one quietly kills every strategy that would require you to be someone else. So the real work of a turnaround isn’t collecting better strategies. It’s becoming someone for whom better strategies are usable. Only then does strategy matter — and strategy isn’t information, it’s discernment, because a frightened woman can’t discern; she grabs. Ask What (the outcome, not the tactic), then Who (who’s done this, who could own it), and only then How. Tactics come last, gladly — they just don’t get to lead.

Key Takeaways

  • The QueenMode Sequence runs State → Identity → Strategy → Tactics. Start anywhere else and the breakthrough collapses.
  • State is the cause, not the reward. Its three inputs — Language, Body, Thoughts — are all things you can change today.
  • Identity is the link everyone skips. You don’t reject good strategies because they’re bad; the woman at the door decided long ago what kind of woman she is.
  • Strategy is discernment, not information. You don’t have a strategy shortage — you have four in a folder right now.
  • Ask What, then Who, then How. “How,” asked first about something you’ve never done, drops your certainty and sends you back to small tactics.

Powerful Quotes from This Episode

“State is not the prize you get at the end. State is the cause. It’s the first domino.”
“A frightened woman cannot discern. A frightened woman grabs.”
“You were not built to manage your circumstances. The best possible outcome of a great day of managing is that nothing broke.”

Who This Episode Is For

The ambitious woman whose breakthroughs never survive the week — who works genuinely hard, keeps buying strategies and tactics, and can’t understand why so much effort produces so little lasting movement.
