đź’« Overview
Revenue flattens, and you feel it in your body before you see it on a report. So you do the thing you always do: you go get more people. More ads, more posting, more referrals asked for in a voice you hate hearing come out of your own mouth. It works just enough to keep you doing it. And it is quietly the most expensive way to grow a business that exists.
The Problem
New client acquisition is the longest, costliest runway in your business. You pay for attention, you pay for trust, you pay for the education, and then you pay for the wait — because a stranger doesn’t buy on the first handshake. And here is what makes it brutal for a woman in operator mode: it is the one lever that runs entirely on you. The ad doesn’t close the consult, you do. The referral doesn’t come because the business is charming; it comes because you were charming. The room doesn’t work unless you’re standing in it.
So you grow, and it costs you more of your life. Then you grow again, and it costs you more of your life. Ten years later the business is bigger and you are smaller, and everyone tells you how well you’re doing.
I ran my practice this way for years. My answer to every business question was “work harder and get more patients.” That was my entire strategic toolkit. Get more, do more, be more places, say yes more. I want to be clear about something, because I think it matters: I wasn’t lazy, and neither are you. I was unarmed. Nobody had ever handed me another lever.
The QueenMode Perspective
There are only three ways to grow a business. More clients. Bigger transaction. More often. That’s the whole list — every growth strategy in the history of commerce is one of those three or a combination of them. I learned the framework from Jay Abraham, who has been teaching it for forty years, and the first time I actually understood it I had to sit down.
Here’s the part that reorganized my brain: they don’t add, they multiply. Improve each lever by ten percent — ten percent is a Tuesday, ten percent is one conversation — and you land north of thirty-three percent, because they compound against each other. Run twenty-five percent on each and you have nearly doubled the business, without a single heroic move. Meanwhile you’ve been trying to get a hundred percent out of lever one, by yourself, with your face and your hours.
Then I want you to go count the assets you own and have never counted. Not the chairs and the equipment — the things that actually produce value and are currently paying you nothing.
Your process. You have a way of doing things you figured out over years of doing it badly and then less badly. You call it “just how we do things here” because it feels like air to you. For my dental and orthodontic queens: look at how many doctors now sell courses to other practice owners teaching exactly this — how their treatment coordinator converts, how their manager manages. Same knowledge they were giving away as air.
The trust you already earned. You have people who would take your call and say yes to something you told them was a good idea, because you already paid the hardest price in business. Most of you never make a second offer. You’re the kitchen remodeler who walks out past the tragic bathroom saying “I’m a kitchen guy.” For my ortho queens: whitening after debond. A retainer program. A sleep and snoring oral appliance program for the adults already sitting in your chairs.
Your channel. If you have a relationship with a group of people, you own distribution — and distribution is worth more than product.
And then there’s the money on the floor. Roughly half the people who tell you no eventually change their minds; they just buy from whoever was there when the timing changed. When someone hesitates it is usually not about price, it’s about risk — so stop discounting and start taking the risk off her back and onto yours. And name the cost of inaction, because if you don’t, she is comparing your price to zero, and you lose that comparison every time.
Key Takeaways
- There are three growth levers, not one, and they multiply rather than add — small moves across all three beat a heroic move on one
- New client acquisition is the most expensive lever and the only one that runs on your presence, your hours, and your nervous system
- Your process, your earned trust, and your channel are paid-for assets currently producing nothing
- A “no” is usually a “not right now” — and nobody is following up on that list, because there is no list
- Hesitation is about risk, not price; the move is a guarantee or a structure, never a discount
- Leverage requires altitude, and you cannot see a second lever from inside the machine
